Happiness and Meaning in Life | An Intellectual Retreat

This retreat is open to all current university and college students.

Step away from the daily rush of life to pray, study, and contemplate happiness and meaning in life. Featured speakers are Fr. Raphael Mary Salzillo, O.P. (University of St. Thomas) and Prof. Christopher Kaczor (Loyola Marymount University).

At this retreat, you will attend a series of talks within the context of the traditional elements of a retreat, including daily mass, Eucharistic adoration, and chanting the Liturgy of the Hours with Dominican friars and your fellow retreatants.

Schedule:

  • Begins with check-in at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19th

  • Concludes with check-out at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21th

Speakers:

Fr. Raphael Mary Salzillo, O.P. is a Dominican friar of the Western Province. Originally from Oregon, he converted to the Catholic faith in high school. He went on to study applied physics for seven years before joining the Dominican Order. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2009, and was then sent by the Order to study philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. In 2019 he moved to Houston and now teaches philosophy at the University of St. Thomas.

Dr. Christopher Kaczor (rhymes with razor) is Professor of Philosophy at Loyola Marymount University and a member of the James Madison Society of Princeton University. In 2015, he was appointed to the Pontifical Academy for Life of Vatican City. He graduated from the Honors Program of Boston College and earned a Ph.D. four years later from the University of Notre Dame. A Fulbright Scholar,  Dr. Kaczor is a former Federal Chancellor Fellow at the University of Cologne and William E. Simon Visiting Fellow in the James Madison Program at Princeton University.  He is an award-winning author of sixteen books including his most recent best-selling book, Jordan Peterson, God, and Christianity: The Search for a Meaningful Life. Dr. Kaczor’s views have been in The New York TimesThe Washington PostThe Wall Street JournalThe Los Angeles TimesHuffington Post, National Review, NPR, BBC, EWTN, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, MSNBC, TEDx, and The Today Show.
